To begin with, load a V-Ray material by choosing from material editor. Apply to the object. Following are the basic parameters to make it finer.

Diffuse: All the V-Ray material properties are there in the material editor. The first is Diffuse colour. There will be no contrast if pure white or pure black colour is rendered as light rays will be bounced and not absorbed. Roughness option is to simulate dust.

Reflection: Pure white is fully reflective and pure black is not reflective at all.  IOR is Index of Reflection; it measures the refraction of light through a surface. The IOR value entirely depends on the material and its characteristics example for glass it is around 1.6.  Fresnel is dependent on IOR. Lower the value of reflection glossiness means the reflection is blurry.

The ideal choice will be staying in greyscale. Reflection colour is filter for diffuse colour.

BRDF: It makes the material appear glossy.

Maps: It is like setting the environment to enhance the property of the material.
